Shannen Doherty Confirms Return For Kevin Smith’s Mallrats 2

Kevin Smith has tweeted out confirmation that Shannen Doherty (“Beverly Hills, 90210”) will reprise her role for the Mallrats sequel.

In the 1995 comedy, Doherty played Rene Mosier, the on-again, off-again, on-again girlfriend to Brodie Bruce (Jason Lee). At the end of the film, Brodie became the host of The Tonight Show and Rene became his bandleader.

Smith also wrote on his facebook page: “This is special to me because it was Shando herself who single-handedly got MALLRATS the green-light back in ’95! So Rene returns, as the RATS roll call continues! 5 down and 7 to go! Collect ’em all!”

Also of note: this will be the third time that Smith and Doherty have worked together as she also made a Scream-like cameo in 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Mallrats 2 begins filming next year.
